About ISR Lessons

Lessons

ISR Lessons are available to infants and young children 6 months-6 years old. These safe and effective lessons are customized to your child and taught one on one. We do not offer group lessons. Your child’s lesson experience will be unique and to provide the safest possible lesson, the instructor’s attention will be focused on your child only throughout the lesson period.

Lessons are no more than 10 minutes a day, 5 days a week, Monday through Friday. In order to master these ISR Self-Rescue® skills, the enrollment period is typically between 6 and 8 weeks.

Your Certified ISR Instructor will provide instruction to your child that emphasizes developmentally appropriate skills training, health issues and considerations, ongoing program evaluations, and parent education.

After the initial lesson experience is complete, ISR recommends that every child participates in Refresher lessons every 6 months to a year. This will enable your child to learn how to adjust their swimming and floating skills to their continually growing and developing bodies.

What do Children 6-12 Months Old Learn?

Generally speaking, children ages 6 months to 1 year learn the ISR Self-Rescue® skill of rolling onto their backs to float, rest and breathe. They learn to maintain this position until help arrives.  Lessons for a 6-12 month old focus on teaching the child to roll onto their back to float, rest and breathe, and to be able to maintain this life-saving position until help arrives.

What do Children 1-6 Years Old Learn?

Lessons for children 1-6 years old focus on teaching the swim-float-swim survival sequence. Children learn to swim with their head down; roll onto their back to float, rest, and breathe; and roll back over to resume swimming until they reach the side of the pool, where they can either crawl out or until they can be rescued.

REFRESHER LESSONS:

Refresher lessons are extremely important in continuing and maintaining your child's ISR Self-Rescue® skill development. Children grow and develop rapidly from infants to toddlers and young children. This development process represents improved strength, coordination, and a more finely tuned cognitive ability. In accordance with this growth, children enrolled in ISR return periodically to participate in Refresher Lessons.

Statics indicate that most children who fall into water are fully clothed. Therefore, once the children are fully skilled they will practice their ISR skills fully clothed.

Give your child the competence, confidence and skills of aquatic safety with Infant Swimming Resource's Self-Rescue® program. The safest provider of survival swimming lessons for children 6 months to 6 years of age!
